example I've handled for it's age! The very first British Popeye Annual, of four Popeye annuals [1960-1963] by the first of seven UK publishers of this long-running series of annuals, subsequently taken up by Purnell, World Distributors (Manchester) Ltd., Brown Watson, Stafford Pemberton, Grandreams and Ravette, ending in 1991,respectively.
An American cartoon hero, Popeye the sailorman was born 17th January 1929, first introduced to the cinema screen 14th
July,1933 in Popeye the Sailor.The six minute saga was part of Fleischer Brothers' famous series of cartoons starring Betty Boop.Made in monochrome - to match the newspaper strips - it was animated by Seymour Knietel + Roland Crandall.
Popeye has a hugely protruding jaw with a pipe clenched between his teeth:he is passionately devoted to a lady named Olive Oyl and, after consuming a strength-giving can of spinach, invariably conquers such opponents as his arch-enemy Bluto.
